Design

PEL has a vast experience in design and manufacturing of standard and special purpose transformers. New technical designs for improved efficiency and quality against special orders of non-standard transformers are continuously being explored. Dry type transformers for Tarbela and Mangla Power Houses Auxiliary Supplies were designed by out Technical Department Special transformers against Client's specification have been manufactured for use within and outside Pakistan.

PEL make oil immersed transformers with natural cooling are suitable for both indoor and outdoor installation. These transformers are manufactured according to BSS-171, IEC-76 or VDE-0532 tropicalised for suitable operation in Pakistan, Middle East and the Africa. The standardized pole mounted transformer up to 200 KVA capacities are sealed type while all larger sizes are conventional transformers with conservator tanks provided with dehydrating breather. All PEL make transforms are offered with tabulartanks as per temperature rise specs.

Construction

PEL make standard Transformers are designed for 11/0.415 KV, 3 phase, 50 Hz. Delta-Star connections with neutral brought out from secondary, for 40/50-55/65oC temperature rise. Transformers with other primary voltages (up to 33KV), secondary voltage, type of connections and temperature rise are being designed and manufactured as per requirements.

It is our constant endeavor to improve design and we therefore, reserve the right to supply transformers different in details.

Features

1.

Windings
Enameled and Paper insulated high conductivity copper is used for all HV & LV windings. In PEL's distribution transformers up to 200KVA, packet windings with enameled copper wire are used on the HV side which increases the short circuit withstand capacity.

2.

Insulation
Very high quality, greater dielectric strength & durable insulations are used in the transformer. These insulations are press pan, cable paper, varnishes and craft paper sheets. Proper clearances are maintained for the appropriate system voltage to meet the IEC tests specifications e.g. 11KV LI 95-AC 28/AC3.

3.

Core
PEL-make transformer cores are manufactured from high quality cold-rolled silicon steel sheets.

4.

Tank
Tubular corrugated type tanks are made and all tanks are pressure tested before assembly.

5.

HV Bushings
Transformers are generally equipped with three high voltage insulator bushings. Where star point connections are required on the high tension slide, four bushings are provided.

6.

LV Bushings
Low voltage side is provided with four porcelain bushings and the neutral is brought out on one of the bushings.

7.

Tap Changer
Off load circuit tap changer is build in with a vertical shaft and has different operating positions as required. Deviations from this design can be supplied on special order and requirements.

8.

Oil Level Gauge
Oil Level Gauge is fitted on the oil conservator and permits direct observation of its contents through a transparent plastic tube. On sealed type transformers, this is fitted on the side wall above the tubes.

9.

Roller Wheels
Transformers are carried on flat-rimmed roller wheels. The axles are easily set over for either broad-side or lengthwise travel of the wheels (centre distance remaining the same).

10.

Earthing Terminal
Each Transformer is provided with an earthing terminal.

11.

Oil Draining Device
There is an oil draining device at the bottom of the Transformer tank from where oil can be drained out. The vent is plugged by a screw cap which makes it possible to take out even very small quantities for simple testing.

12.

Transformer Oil
Transformers are supplied with a first filling of high di-electric strength transformer oil duly tested and treated at PEL Works.

Technical Specification for Export Items

The following transformers are manufactured on the following system voltages:
6.6KV, 11KV, 13.8KV, 15KV, 20KV, 33KV at frequency 50 Hertz and 60 Hertz.

Inspection and Testing

All PEL-make Transformers undergo stage-wise inspection and then complete routine tests by the inspection and Quality Control Department. In addition, Type Tests are carried out as per contractual conditions. Our testing & QC Department offers technical inspection to the client before delivery of the transformers and prepares a complete set of factory test reports before the dispatch of the transformers.
